R. Lucke Surfboards is a surfboard shaping company founded by legendary shaper, Ray Lucke. Located in Camarillo, CA, they recently had an open house and surfboard exchange sale. My best friend,Traci, and I went to check it out. It was RAD beyond RAD. Traci wants to shape her own board and hopes to do so in the near future. Places like these offer courses and guidance in shaping boards. Shaping surfboards is an incredible process. There are so many nuances and intricacies. By far, the most interesting workroom they had was the curve lighting room in which they position the lighting in a manner that allows you to compare the shadows of the curves on the board and make sure they are 100% even. As a person who lives off of light and shadows, I was impressed. I didn't get a chance to photograph the entire process of shaping from start to finish, but I did capture the space. I hope to be able to capture Traci's shaping journey once she gets into it!
